Growing up, my mom had an early-1980s Suburban named, "Martha." The windshield wipers would randomly turn on, and I have fond memories of getting that thing stuck in the snow, so I have this connection to the trucks that feels personal. I've owned three of them myself, including the blue and white one that sits in my garage right now. So when I was approached to write a book about these trucks, I jumped on it.

In 2004, maybe 2005, I wrote a forum post about hydraulics — everything you needed to know to install them on your ride. And just a year or two later, I'd install my first set of airbags, and it was all downhill from there.
